Publication Annoucement: Cethe by Becca Abbott [31 Aug 2007|06:57pm]
[ mood | excited ]

In case you haven't already heard, [info]beccaabbott will be having a book published with Yaoi House next year. The publisher had contracted with her to write something novella length, but--as those of us familiar with Becca's fanworks wouldn't be surprised to learn--her story develops with a more epic, multi-dimensional feel (and, as such, is longer than novella length).

You can pre-order Becca's book now, if you like: HERE! I mention this in part because the full retail price is a little...er, high, sadly, but if you pre-order, it's a bit more manageable. Of course, I'm speaking from a full-time, rather broke student point of view, so that mattered to me.

But also, I love this book! Now I'm speaking as an advance reader. I'm impressed by the world she creates, the political push and pull, the depth of emotions in her characters. The complexity of relationship between Michael and Stefan, Michael and Severn, and, in it's way, Severn and Stefan gave me that thrill of reading where you can't wait to get back to the characters and see what they'll do next. Also, Becca's writing--which has always been so very good--has an even higher level of professional polish and style with this novel.

And, I have to mention, it's hot! I love me a good kissing scene and there are many of those (among other things ^_~ )

So, I know it's a ways off before the book will be in print, but I couldn't help but join in with the announcements because I just can't wait to have a bound copy in my hands.

Bravo, Becca! You did a fantastic job!

Life Stuff [31 Aug 2007|06:00pm]
[ mood | busy ]

Okay, so I no sooner start this thing and my life changes enough that I don't have time for it. I have started nursing clinicals this week and OMG, life is different. They /told/ me I wouldn't have time and, you know, I only partially believed them. I believed them enough that I dropped my work status to part-time (which I had been reluctant to do), but I really didn't expect... I don't know what I expected. Just know that my online time has dropped to a fraction of what it was and will likely be like that for, well, at least this semester. They've structured the program so that your first semester is the worst/most intensive and then it won't be so bad. Right now, though? OMG, so overwhelemed!

Though, the upswing, a local hospital reported that they just hired 14 new nurse grads just on the strength of reputation the program I'm in carries. Yay!

Now, I do check my e-mail...er, most days, so I can be reached should you need me for anything. Just don't be surprised if there's not a rapid response.

It's still: dev_aki_jediknight @ yahoo.com

See ya on the flip side!

(though, I do have one more post I need to make before temporary radio silence...)

Long day, but a better tomorrow [15 Aug 2007|11:07pm]
[ mood | tired ]

I had another orientation for nursing clinicals today (2 of 3--they take their program very seriously) and I'm telling you, no one should sit that long in uncomfortable chairs without a break. I don't know what these people were thinking, not having a break for 4 hours, but cruel and unusual punishment comes to mind.

On a sad note, my mother's dog, Chelsea, died. This wasn't expected and we're not sure what happened, my mother just found her. She was a blonde lab/retriever mix. Though I say she was my mother's dog, she was the family dog back when the family still lived there, so there's a part of me that feels she was my dog, too. I always loved telling her that she was my "good girl". ;_; She'll be missed.

Tomorrow is my local library's annual used book sale and I love this thing. ^_^ I had quite the good haul last year and I'm as eager for this year. Actually, I'm supposed to be at work tomorrow, but I got someone to cover the AM portion of my shift just so I could go to this thing. Is that crazy or what? But I love it and didn't want to miss it. ^_^

Wish me happy slashy book hunting tomorrow, because that'll be my main quarry.

HP FIC: The Beach (S/R) [14 Aug 2007|10:47pm]
[ mood | creative ]

Well, here's my first fic to IJ. Yay!

TITLE: The Beach
BY: Dev-Aki Basaa

RATING: PG
PAIRING: Sirius/Remus
CATEGORY: drama, angst, romance
FEEDBACK: yes, please ^_^ dev_aki_jediknight @ yahoo.com
WARNINGS: none
DISCLAIMER: The world of Harry Potter, et al, belongs to JK Rowling. This is merely a fannish speculation, nothing more. No profit is made. All characters involved are over 18.
SUMMARY: Even fond memories can be painful and hard to face.
Word count: 2,227
NOTES: Set after the end of GoF. A Lie Low at Lupin's fic. Thank you to phineasjones and razorqueen for the betas!

~*~

Sirius sat staring out the window, knees drawn up. He held his legs against his body, squeezing them close, as if trying to occupy as small a space as possible. Remus recognized the effort. He'd done it, too--as youthful attempts to hide in the shadows and escape notice. He frowned to see Sirius echo his old behavior. It shouldn't be like that; he should feel welcome, comfortable.

But after thirteen long, painful years, days filled with confusion and anger, should he really be so surprised? )

Is anyone else becoming increasingly nostalgic for MLs or usenet or whatever?

Maybe that's just me and my response to all this blog-limbo-status. *sigh*
